I’ve seen islands. I’ve seen England and Rome and France. I’ve seen the inside of a newsroom. I’ve seen a blank page and a blinking cursor. I’ve seen two babies take their first breaths. I’ve seen someone take my hand and pledge to love me forever. I’ve seen true friends. I’ve seen death and almost-death. I’ve seen people afraid to live life too deeply. I’ve seen unfathomable wealth. I’ve seen blue, blue water. I’ve seen things I thought were dead and gone flourish and grow and thrive.
